HLS vs WebRTC: choose the right stream type.

Castlink supports HLS, WebRTC, and combined event packages. HLS suits larger watch-link events. WebRTC suits lower-latency streams where the audience is smaller or timing matters more.

Use HLS when

  • You expect more viewers.
  • A few seconds of latency is acceptable.
  • You want a stable watch-link experience.
  • The stream is mostly one host to many viewers.

Use WebRTC when

  • Lower latency matters.
  • The audience is smaller.
  • You want faster interactive-feeling delivery.
  • You are testing or running a more immediate session.

HLS

Best default for larger private events, clubs, venues, and paid watch-link delivery.

WebRTC

Best for low-latency private streams with smaller audiences and faster viewer feedback.

Both

Useful when an event needs flexibility across viewer types or a low-latency path plus HLS viewing.
